How We Approach Itching and Scabies
Itching has many causes: scabies mites, fungal infection, allergy, dry skin, diabetes, liver or kidney trouble, and sometimes stress. Scabies in particular spreads by close contact, so if one person is treated and the rest of the house is not, it returns. We ask who else at home is itching and plan for the whole family.
Wash bedsheets, towels and clothes in hot water and dry them in the sun while treatment runs. Cut nails short to limit scratching. If you are using a cream prescribed by another doctor, tell us on the call.

What to Expect
Fresh scabies with the whole family treated together usually settles within a few weeks. Itching that has gone on for years, or that keeps returning after steroid creams, needs a longer course, and we review at each follow-up with photos of the skin.

Fever with spreading red, hot, painful skin, crusted scabies in an elderly or bedridden person, or itching with yellow eyes or dark urine needs a hospital or physician examination first.
Common Questions
Does the whole family need treatment for scabies?
Usually yes. People who share a bed or room often carry the mite before they itch. Treating everyone at the same time is the surest way to stop it coming back.
Why does my itching come back when I stop the cream?
Creams, especially steroid creams, calm the skin on the surface. If the cause is still there, or the steroid has thinned the skin, the itching returns. We look for the cause so you can rely less on strong creams over time.
Can children with scabies be treated online?
Yes. A parent joins the video call and shows the skin in good light. For babies under three months, we ask that a doctor examines the child in person as well.
